The Pumpkin

October 2022

The pumpkin was a just-for-fun thing I did my freshman year. It was my first time having access to 3D-printers and I was so excited to get some hands-on experience with them.

I used the loft tool in OnShape to connect a series of scalloped circles I sketched out to create an organic look. I primarily use Solidworks and Fusion360 now, but I’m comfortable in all three. I then saved it as an .stl and imported it into Blender, where I used the sculpt tool to create that super realistic texture. I’m not super comfortable in Blender, but I am still learning as I go and my traditional art skills have made me quite adept at surface modeling, at least for artistic stuff like this. I'd like to add that I now take a much more methodical approach to CADing, often using variables and considering which techniques are most optimal.

The stem is connected via a hexagon slot and some superglue. Nothing too fancy, but it got the job done and was the perfect for decor for the fall!
